A native of Miami, Ernest Abuin is a professor, architect, designer, and artist. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Miami (1998), a Master of Architecture degree from Florida International University (2004), and a Master’s degree in Design Studies in Historic Preservation from Boston Architectural College (2014). Practicing in Miami and Savannah, Ernest’s body of work spans a broad range from high-performance housing and restoration/adaptive reuse of historic structures to mixed-use commercial and hospitality design.
In 2017, Ernest opened an environmentally ethical design studio devoted to environmental stewardship, cultural movements, and dedicated to understanding the relationship between human interaction and the occupation of space. The studio’s work is about bringing a new architectural experience to new and historic structures while remaining sensitive to their cultural significance and geographical location.
Ernest has been an instructor and visiting lector at higher institutions in the United States and abroad. He is currently a professor of interior design in Savannah, Georgia and continues to lecture on his professional works and is a strong advocate of humanitarian and social design.
